Monthly Sandwich Service Activity

Sri Sathya Sai Baba Centre of Toronto East has been doing this Sandwich service activity for the past 22 years on the first Saturday of every month. It was originally started as a personal service activity by a small group of families in 1993 but became a Centre service activity since 1995. Since then, it has grown significantly both in participation and volume. We have about 15-20 families currently making about 400 sandwiches every month. Each family makes its allotted number of sandwiches and delivers them at three central locations. A volunteer family assigned by our Center picks them up from all three locations and delivers to a soup-kitchen shelter located in downtown Toronto and run by Good Shepherd Ministries (also called Good Shepherd Refuge). Their employees serve food to those who are in need. “The place where you go when there’s no money left for food. “ |
Over the years, we have received many letters of gratitude from the Good Sheppard Refuge. This service activity is very special to the devotees of the Centre as a means of spreading Swami’s message of love and service to all. Undoubtedly, this project has continued for 22 years at this Centre because of the unshakeable conviction in the mind of all members that service to fellow beings is service to the Lord. Despite inclement weather conditions and personal commitments of members, devotees regularly prepare and serve sandwiches., which ultimately leaves all participants feeling happy and uplifted.
