This past Family Day weekend, something truly special took place in Toronto East. Nine of their junior SSE students, along with their dedicated moms, came together to perform a heartwarming seva that spread love and joy across generations. The day was filled with laughter, music, and the kind of warmth that can only come from acts of kindness, all while Swami himself held back the snow, ensuring the seva went ahead without a hitch.

The group’s first stop was the Villa Kuruna Elder Home, where they brought with them not only homemade food but also an abundance of love and energy. The kids had prepared everything themselves; fresh cookies, fruity treats using their own pocket money, and Jello, all with a touch of care and enthusiasm. But the true highlight of the visit was the way they engaged with the elders.

As the children sang both bhajans and popular cinema songs, the atmosphere was filled with joy and harmony. The elders joined in the singing, their faces lighting up as the sweet melodies brought back fond memories. A group game was also organized, bringing laughter and a sense of connection that bridged the generations. It was a moment of pure magic where age, background, and tradition were secondary to the simple, powerful joy of shared humanity.

After a nourishing lunch, the group didn’t stop there. They ventured to another elder home, where a group of elder Christians eagerly awaited their visit. With the help of a caregiver, the kids entertained the elders by singing hymns, filling the space with music that transcended cultures. The children participated with ease, their shyness nowhere to be found, as they shared their voices and energy with the group. There was something incredibly touching about their willingness to simply offer love and joy without hesitation.

The elders were deeply moved, showering the children with gratitude and asking them to return soon. It was clear that the kids had touched hearts in ways words couldn’t fully express. Even some of the children who had classes that day chose to miss them in order to participate in the seva a beautiful reminder that service to others can become the highest priority in moments of need.

The day ended with full hearts and the promise of future visits. For the junior SSE kids and their moms, this Family Day weekend wasn’t just about spending time together it was about making a real difference in the lives of others, and in doing so, growing their own hearts in the process. Truly, there’s no better way to celebrate the spirit of service and community.

Swami’s grace, the enthusiasm of the children, and the warmth of the elders made this Family Day seva one that will be remembered for years to come.
