On November 26, 2017 the group 4 SSE students from Middlefield Sai Centre organized the annual Christmas clothing drive. The students took the needs of the community into consideration and chose the following two charities: The Salvation Army Gateway Men’s shelter and Jessies – The June Callwood Centre for Young Women. The Salvation Army Gateway Men’s shelter needed winter jackets, sweaters and L to XL clothing. Jessie’s needed maternity clothing for young women, baby clothes and winter clothing. Fifteen to twenty families of the SSE students at Middlefield Sai Centre donated clothing to the drive. The group 4 SSE students personally collected the donations from devotees at the Centre. Others dropped their contributions off at a common bin at the Centre.
As a part of their service project, the group 4 SSE students also visited other SSE classes until December 17, the day of the Centre’s Christmas program. They spoke about the season of giving, service and the importance of gratitude. The clothing drive was successful and got accolades from the community organizations – The Salvation Army Gateway Men’s shelter and Jessies – The June Callwood Centre for Young Women.
