The success of the Mask project of the previous month was an incentive for the Ladies Wing of Sri Sathya Sai Baba Centre of Cooksville to continue the Mask stitching project for another month (May 2020). The project was completed with the cooperation of the Youth and Service Wings.

The Youth helped to create a form to collect information about fabric requirements and the names of suppliers. Even though the project came to a mid-halt due to the unavailability of elastic, the timely aid of one of our members ensured that the project succeeded as the supply of elastic was resumed. With Swami’s Grace, the Ladies Wing along with the Service Wing coordinated on Google Sheets to arrange all pickups. Working together, these two Wings were able to accomplish the pickup and drop off of the completed masks in a short period of time.

Following the guidelines of the Canadian Health Agency, all masks were made in a safe environment where contamination was limited. Working together, the dedicated ladies made a total of 377 masks, which were dropped off at the hospital on May 29th, 2020.

The mask project was completed in collaboration with MGH1000 Mask Project of Michael Garron Hospital where their goal was to have 1000 masks made available per week. The Cooksville Sai Centre was able to contribute in a timely fashion. The masks were made available for all approved visitors, discharged patients, and the broader community to prevent disease transmission.

The Ladies Wing hopes to continue on this project, until the need for masks exist. Fortunately the Cooksville Sai Centre has sufficient and enthusiastic volunteers to complete the masks and consequently be of service in this difficult, challenging and uncertain pandemic.

The Michael Garron Hospital spokesperson expressed sincere heartfelt gratitude on the receipt of 377 masks. With Swami’s Grace the Cooksville Sai Centre was acknowledged for one of Swami’s most important messages –”Manava Seva”.
