The Sandwich Project drive started as a small initiative to serve the homeless in Toronto. Initially, sandwiches were hand delivered to the homeless brothers/sisters personally. The drive was done in response to the growing population that are without food. Later, it was inculcated within the SSE class to inspire young children and promote civic engagement. This month, the Group 3 Girls conducted the Sandwich Project. During the first Saturday of every month, one SSE class is chosen to prepare 30 sandwich bags filled with a handmade vegetarian sandwich (lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, cheese, condiments, etc.), cookies, fruits, and a juice box. An assembly line is made and children assemble the sandwich together. It is then wrapped and put into a bag. After 30 of these bags are made, a volunteer from the Service Wing transports the packages to the shelter (The Open Door) who has already been notified. The event occurs prior to the start of the SSE class. The project was well received. Though we do not directly see the visitors to the shelter fed directly, we are told by the shelter staff that the packages are received with eagerness. The youth will continue to arrange similar drives on a monthly basis leading the younger children to create change within the community in the form of preparing and serving food.

The service activity has allowed SSE children to reflect on their personal lives and to be grateful to Bhagwan for all that they have.
