Wing: Service
Home for Dinner
The Ronald MacDonald Foundation is a charitable organization that built accommodation facilities near children hospitals in several North American cities to host attendants (parents, siblings, grandparents etc.) of children receiving treatment in the children hospitals. Several charitable and other organizations sign up for volunteering including cooking meals in these facilities in support of these attendants who usually become very busy taking care of their children and have no time to care for themselves. Calgary Sai Centre’s participation in this activity was initiated in the beginning of 2017.
Cooking and serving lunch for homeless people
The Calgary Drop-In Centre offers shelter and meals for hundreds of homeless people all year round. Several charitable and other organizations routinely offer volunteering services including cooking and serving meals. A few devotees have been cooking and serving lunch on every third Saturday of the month in the name of Sri Sathya Sai Centre for nearly 25 years.
Sharing, Caring & Knitting for God organized by the Ladies Wing
Swami has taught us all the importance of “Love all Serve all” and Swami has often said that service (Manav Seva) is service to God (Madhava Seva). In support of Swami’s mission, on the 19th of May 2018, the Ladies wing initiated a Sadhana called “Sharing, Caring and Knitting HIS Love Together”. The goal of this Sadhana was to serve the less fortunate ones through knitting needy items while engaging in Swami’s namasmarana.
“Melody of Divine Love” – Musical program for Senior’s Home
Our monthly performance for the residents at the Erin Meadow retirement home was on October 28, 2018. We celebrated Thanksgiving and Navaratri with the residents. The evening started with a small introduction to the significance of “Thanksgiving”. We elaborated on the importance of “giving thanks” and continued with an opening prayer.
Living Room Food Service
The ” Living Room Food Seva” is a regular feature of the Coquitlam Sai Centre’s Seva activities. The Centre has been offering this meal service seva activity since the early 2000 and is conducted about 4 times a year. A sumptous 4-5 course vegetarian meal is freshly cooked on-site at the Powell Street Getaway, formerly known as the “Living Room Drop-In Centre”, and served to about 150 to 200 patrons at this facility.
Peace Days Celebration
Peace Days was inspired by the Rotary World Peace Partners in 2010. Peace Days grew out of a desire to celebrate the United Nations’ International Day of Peace, designated as September 21st each year. In 2010, Winnipeg celebrated with a Concert for Peace, where music was the medium to communicate the importance of working toward a more peaceful and compassionate society. Peace Days evolved, and in 2015 became a two week-long festival with community events spanning from September 11 through to the International Day of Peace on September 21. Last year, from September 11-21, 2018, Peace Days celebration included a diverse, stimulating program of events throughout Winnipeg to appeal to all ages.
Lunch Bag Project
Between the months of August 25th and November 23rd, 2018 members from the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Centre of Toronto-York collected over 140 lunch bags, reusable water bottles and containers for the school age children at the Women’s Shelter in Brampton. The Ladies Wing has a long-standing volunteer partnership for over ten years with the Salvation Army-Honey Church Family Life Resource Centre in Brampton.
